NDT Testing & Training Services - Overview

In short: We run NDT Level I and Level II training and provide NDT inspection services from our centre at Vasai (E) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, covering radiographic (RT), ultrasonic (UT), magnetic particle (MPT or MPI), liquid penetrant (LPT or DPT), visual (VT), ultrasonic thickness gauging (UTG), hardness and positive material identification (PMI). Training and certification follow ASNT SNT-TC-1A.

Quick facts

  • Where: Mahalaxmi Industrial Estate, Vasai (E), Vasai-Virar, Thane-Palghar 401208. Trainees come from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Vasai-Virar, Nalasopara, Palghar, Bhiwandi and Boisar.
  • Methods covered: RT, UT, MPT, LPT, VT, UTG, hardness testing and PMI.
  • Levels: Level I and Level II, with Level III theory available. Level II is the qualification most employers and contracts actually ask for.
  • Scheme: ASNT SNT-TC-1A, plus company-specific certification for contractors.
  • Format: theory plus hands-on practice on calibrated equipment, with sample preparation, real flaw detection, mock tests and a final examination.
  • Who trains: sessions run under Mr. Prakash Jadhav, our founder, NDT Level II certified in RT, UT, MPI and LPT, an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI, ID 733626) and TWI CSWIP inspector with over 26 years in the field.
  • Fees and duration: quoted on request, because both depend on how many methods you take and whether you need Level I, Level II or a refresher. Call +91 8169178256 or message us on WhatsApp.
  • Services as well as training: we also carry out NDT inspection on your components and welds, at our facility or at your site.

Which method do you actually need?

If you are new to NDT, this is the usual order of usefulness in Indian fabrication and marine work. Visual testing (VT) comes first on every job and is the cheapest to learn. Liquid penetrant (LPT) and magnetic particle (MPT) find surface and near-surface defects and are quick to qualify in. Ultrasonic (UT) and radiographic (RT) find internal defects, pay the most, and take the longest to learn properly; RT also carries radiation-safety obligations. UTG, hardness and PMI are shorter, equipment-led skills that pair well with an inspection role.

Most people working towards a QA or QC inspection job in a shipyard, refinery or fabrication unit take Level II in several methods rather than one.

🔍 What is NDT?

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) refers to a set of techniques used to evaluate the integrity, properties, and defects of a material, component, or structure without damaging it.

NDT plays a critical role in quality control, safety assurance, and asset integrity across industries like:

  • Oil & Gas
  • Marine & Shipbuilding
  • Power Plants
  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Construction & Fabrication

We offer both NDT Services and NDT Training Programs, conducted as per ASNT, SNT-TC-1A, and other applicable standards.

🧪 NDT Methods Offered & Explained

1️⃣ LPT – Liquid Penetrant Testing

Purpose: To detect surface-breaking defects such as cracks, porosity, and seams on non-porous materials (both metals and non-metals).

Applications: Welds, castings, forgings, valves, tanks

Training Includes:

  • Penetrant types (water washable, solvent removable)
  • Cleaning and developer application
  • Interpretation of indications
  • Safety and surface preparation

2️⃣ MPT – Magnetic Particle Testing

Purpose: Detects surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials using magnetic fields.

Applications: Shafts, gears, weld joints, pipelines, structural steel

Training Includes:

  • AC vs DC magnetization
  • Yoke, coil, prods techniques
  • Wet & dry methods
  • Evaluation of magnetic indications

3️⃣ UT – Ultrasonic Testing

Purpose: Uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal defects, measure thickness, and characterize materials.

Applications: Pressure vessels, piping, welds, forgings, turbine blades

Training Includes:

  • Calibration of equipment
  • Types of probes (straight, angle beam)
  • A-scan, B-scan interpretation
  • Defect sizing and evaluation

4️⃣ RT – Radiographic Testing

Purpose: Uses X-rays or gamma rays to create radiographic images of internal structures.

Applications: Weld joints, castings, aerospace components, pipelines

Training Includes:

  • Radiographic techniques (film & digital)
  • Source handling (Ir-192, Co-60, X-ray)
  • Image interpretation & defect identification
  • Radiation safety & shielding

5️⃣ VT – Visual Testing

Purpose: The first and most basic NDT method that involves direct or remote visual examination of components.

Applications: Weld inspection, corrosion checks, fit-up verification

Training Includes:

  • Use of magnifiers, boroscopes, weld gauges
  • Acceptance criteria based on AWS/ASME
  • Reporting techniques
  • Lighting and accessibility considerations

6️⃣ UTG – Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

Purpose: Measures material thickness using ultrasonic pulses — without needing access to both sides of the object.

Applications: Corrosion monitoring, pipelines, tanks, structural components

Training Includes:

  • Equipment setup & calibration
  • Sound velocity settings
  • Surface prep and couplant use
  • Data logging and interpretation

7️⃣ Hardness Testing

Purpose: Determines the resistance of a material to deformation, wear, or indentation.

Common Methods:

  • Brinell (BHN)
  • Rockwell (HR)
  • Vickers (VHN)
  • Portable hardness testers

Training Includes:

  • Selection of appropriate method
  • Test setup and load application
  • Material property correlation
  • Standards and reporting

8️⃣ PMI – Positive Material Identification

Purpose: Identifies metal alloys and their composition using portable analyzers (XRF/OES).

Applications: Incoming material inspection, plant audits, weld verification

Training Includes:

  • Use of XRF or OES devices
  • Calibration and safety
  • On-site alloy identification
  • Report generation and data interpretation

Frequently asked questions

What are the NDT course fees in Mumbai?

Fees depend on how many methods you take and whether you need Level I, Level II or a refresher. Tell us which methods your target job requires and we will quote. Call +91 8169178256.

How long does NDT Level 2 training take?

It varies by method and by how many you take together. A single method is considerably shorter than a multi-method programme. We confirm the schedule once we know your scope.

What is ASNT SNT-TC-1A?

It is the recommended practice published by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing that sets out how employers qualify and certify NDT personnel, including training hours, experience and examination. Most Indian NDT certification follows this scheme.

What is the difference between NDT Level I, II and III?

Level I performs tests under supervision. Level II works independently, interprets results and writes reports, which is what most jobs require. Level III develops procedures, trains and audits.

Do I need a degree or ITI to join NDT training?

Not necessarily. Background requirements vary by method and level under SNT-TC-1A. Tell us your education and work experience and we will tell you what you qualify for.

Do you provide NDT services as well as training?

Yes. We carry out RT, UT, MPT, LPT, VT, UTG, hardness and PMI inspection on components, welds and structures, at our Vasai (E) facility or at your site across the Mumbai region and Maharashtra.

Is the NDT certificate valid outside India?

Certification under SNT-TC-1A is employer-based rather than a universal licence, which is how the scheme is designed. It is widely recognised, but a new employer may re-examine you. Check what your target employer requires.
